Take off for the island of Astypalaia in the Dodecanese, where traditional island living mixes with history to create a truly appealing destination. The picturesque port and capital Chora sits atop a rocky hill overlooking the sea.

A VENETIAN LEGACY

Visit the remains of a 15th century Venetian Guerini castle that was later inhabited by locals to protect themselves from pirates. Discover two small white churches inside by passing through its low vaulted passageway and only entrance.

RELICS FROM THE PAST

Drop into the small archaeological museum at Skala to view artefacts as old as prehistoric times up to the Middle Ages. Offerings found at two Mycenaean chamber tombs and a petite bronze statue of Aphrodite are among the exhibits.

Visit a seaside village

BEACH LIFE

Head for Livadia, a graphic seaside village surrounded by orchards and vineyards right next to an idyllic little beach and enjoy the serenity of island life in a traditional setting. Take a seat in a seafront taverna and watch Chora light up as evening draws in.

Fly via Athens to Paros

ARRIVAL IN PAROS

Arrive at Paros island and discover the true Cyclades with its whitewashed traditional dwellings, narrow cobbled streets and quaint fishing villages. Try a spot of windsurfing on its long, sandy beaches and visit the beautiful Valley of the Butterflies to catch a glimpse of the Jersey Tiger Moth species.

DISCOVER THE ISLAND

Visit the church of Panaghia Ekatontapyliani, dedicated to Virgin Mary, in the main town next to the port. Admire one of the most ancient monuments of the Byzantine period to exist in Greece.

Swim at Kolimbithres beach close to Naoussa bay, a wonderful place to enjoy the sea with its carved granite rocks creating an unusual landscape of a sandy shoreline and small ‘swimming pools’.

Paros is an island full of vibrant nightlife, with many options for you to explore. Small bars and cafés in Paroikia and Naoussa turn into lively hubs as the night draws on and there are also a few popular dance clubs which are open until the early hours.

Sail to the scenic island

ISLAND OF THE SENSES

Arrive at Folegandros, the island named after the son of king Minos. Explore its beautiful beaches, turquoise waters and amazing Cycladic architecture. Sail to Karavostasis Port and wander the scenic narrow streets of Chora, the charming capital.

Choose from a handful of pristine beaches on the island, beginning with Livadi Beach near to Chora. Take a boat to the stunning Katergo or opt for the sandy pebbled Angali beach.

Visit the Cultural Association of Folegandros located in Chora to see intriguing exhibits of the island’s culture and crafts such as ceramics, textiles and photographs. Head on to the Ecomuseum at Ano Meria which shows rural life from days of old.

WALK IN WONDER

Walk along the old network of island trails to reach some lovely secluded beaches while enjoying amazing views along the way. 20 kilometres of footpaths will lead you into areas of historical and cultural interest in a unique setting.

Return to the port of Athens
